I'm so glad you joined me. Listen in and get ready. Get ready for a shift in the way you view yourself, your work, your life. A business miracle.
[00:00:39] Speaker B: In part one of this three part episode series, I'm sharing what's needed for you to operate optimally as a highly sensitive entrepreneur and leader in order to be able to be flexible and fluid within the changing world that we are all living through.
Listen in to learn how to navigate, change and reach your business and career goals as part of being on the path to cultivating happiness.
[00:01:11] Speaker C: The first time that I taught the happiness advantage as an adaptation for our community of highly sensitive entrepreneurs and leaders was at an in person retreat in spring 2019.
However, so much has shifted and changed since that time, bringing us to the value of a re return to this most important topic. Again, the post pandemic happiness advantage, part one. Financial american author and poet Eb White wrote, I arise in the morning, torn between a desire to improve or save the world and desire to enjoy or savor the world. This makes it very hard to plan the day.
What is the happiness advantage?
[00:02:09] Speaker D: The happiness advantage is a psychology theory.
[00:02:13] Speaker C: That draws a connection between personal happiness and professional success. Let's write that down.
[00:02:21] Speaker D: A connection between personal happiness and professional success.
[00:02:28] Speaker C: This idea proposes that the happier people are, the more successful they will be.
The research is driven by researcher Harvard researcher Sean Ackertain, who also wrote the book the Happiness Advantage. So some quick stats from Sean Acker's research.
In one study, preschool children were separated into two categories, group A and group B. Group A were taught how to build blocks with basic instructions.
Group B were taught to build blocks with optimistic instructions.
Group B outperformed group A by 60%, showing that happiness optimism had a direct effect on spatial memory.
In another study, doctors who received happiness training saw their ability to more quickly and more accurately diagnose patients by 19%.
In a MetLife study, their top 10% of optimists were outselling the other 90% by 89%. And I'll say that again. In a MetLife study, the top 10% of optimists were outselling the other 90% of employees by another 89%. So 10% were outselling by 89%.
As a result of this research, MetLife changed their hiring.
They changed their hiring from focused on industry standard intelligence as a basis for hiring to levels of optimism as a basis for hiring.
So not how industry intelligent an interviewee was, but instead how optimistic an interviewee was when they made this change. The first group of new hires, under this new focus of hiring, optimists outsold standard first year hires by 26%.
By year two, the same group continued to outsell standard hires by now 57%, close to double within one year.
The research also shows your productive energy rises by 31% when your brain is positive versus compared to your brain when negative or even neutral, meaning your productivity energy rises by 31% when you are able to remain positive under stressful situations versus compared to when your brain default to negative or even neutral when under stressful situations.
Let's take a breath in and let it out.
So, as I said, when I first taught the happiness advantage to a group of hses as part of our community, and many of you were there at an in person spring training retreat in 2019, I had read the book and.
[00:06:58] Speaker D: Realized that my tendency, my natural tendency.
[00:07:02] Speaker C: Was towards the opposite, the complete opposite of the happiness advantage. Now at that time, I had undergone two surgeries in two years.
But if I was honest, which I chose to be in my inquiry at the time, my tendency to default to the opposite of the happiness advantage was deeper than those two surgeries, meaning my most immediate stress.
So from there, I engaged in some.
[00:07:37] Speaker D: Practical research of members in the business miracles community.
[00:07:41] Speaker C: And I found the same that as.
[00:07:46] Speaker D: A community of highly sensitive entrepreneurs and leaders, there was more of a propensity.
[00:07:52] Speaker C: Meaning an intense natural inclination or preference towards doom and gloom.
Now, to me, this made sense.
This tendency as highly sensitives towards doom and gloom. Again, the opposite of the happiness advantage tends to be connected to our tendency as highly sensitives to feel not enough based on years of unconscious comparison and always coming up short when comparing yourself against the other 80%, the non highly sensitives. Now, of course, as I've taught in the comparison chart and theory, that comparison doesn't even really make sense because it's apples to oranges, a highly sensitive person compared to a non highly sensitive person.
Now, what has changed since I first taught the happiness advantage? Since 2019, there has been a global pandemic and all of the physical and psychological fallout from this once in a generation experience.
Sean Acker has updated his research as a result of our exceptional times. So to me, it makes sense to update this training for our global community of highly sensitive entrepreneurs and leaders as well.
First, here's what still remains the same.
[00:09:43] Speaker D: The happiness advantage proposes that the happier.
[00:09:46] Speaker C: People are, the more successful they will be. This is still true.
The happiness advantage states that when people are happy, they perform to the best of their abilities and therefore are more successful. Rather than working hard to be happier, people need to be satisfied in the present to achieve their goals.
This is still true.
People experience happiness based on how they perceive their environment and daily activities, Acker says. Happiness is not about lying to ourselves or turning a blind eye to the negative, but about adjusting our brain so that we see the ways to rise above our circumstances.
This is still true, and all three are connected to what I taught on last week's training, cultivating true worth to create true wealth.
Here's what has changed.
[00:11:09] Speaker D: Our environment.
[00:11:13] Speaker C: What we believed we could trust in or rely on, pre pandemic has shifted.
So then, what needs to shift within us?
[00:11:28] Speaker D: Write that down.
What needs to shift within us?
Acker states.
[00:11:38] Speaker C: We can dictate our happiness by recognizing roadblocks and identifying how to overcome them.
[00:11:47] Speaker D: Once the path to success is defined.
[00:11:50] Speaker C: It'S much easier to provoke change.
[00:11:56] Speaker D: Once the path to success is defined.
[00:11:59] Speaker C: It becomes much easier to provoke change.
So how do we do that?
How do we define the path to success?
The path to success, for us as highly sensitive entrepreneurs and leaders, is the shadow to strengths pathway.
Please write that down.
As we've been talking about the TeD triangle, short for the empowerment dynamic triangle is that column entitled empowerment coach, challenger and creator.
[00:12:45] Speaker D: Last week we focused on each of.
[00:12:48] Speaker C: These empowerment dynamics within the Ted triangle.
Today, this week, I specifically invite us to focus in on the challenger, the challenger as the way to access that path to success.
The happiness advantage path to success.
Looking at the entire pathway of the challenger, we start with the highly sensitive shadow of overprotection.
To the drama triangle persecutor to the empowerment triangle Challenger into the space of our highly sensitive strength of intuition.
The challenger is the positive alternative to the persecutor in relationship to others, in relationship to yourself.
A challenger consciously builds others up. A challenger consciously builds themselves up, encouraging others, encouraging yourself to learn and grow despite difficult situations. Write that down.
To learn and grow despite difficult situations.
Challengers are catalysts for learning and are willing to stand for the vision even when others do not.
[00:14:37] Speaker D: Rather than criticizing or blaming as a.
[00:14:40] Speaker C: Persecutor will, a challenger inspires others to reach for the highest good of all involved.
[00:14:48] Speaker D: A challenger is willing to shake things.
[00:14:51] Speaker C: Up and go to the heart of the matter.
Challengers are sometimes called truth tellers in service to outcomes and challengers are the co creators with whom they interact.
So according to the happiness advantage, our challenges are our key to happiness.
Let's write that down.
Our challenges are our key to happiness.
Specifically, the happiness advantage principle number four, titled falling up. Happiness advantage principle number four falling up.
This principle speaks to the kind of cliche that you probably heard in one form or another that failure is just finding out what didn't work.
Following up is the idea that failure is a stepping stone to success.
By looking at our missteps through a positive lens, we develop resilience and get closer to achieving our goals that much more quickly.
Viewing a misstep failure as a negative will most likely lead to more failure, more missteps, which navigates us further and further away from our desired outcome, especially when it comes to financials. Write that down.
Now back to environment and what has changed since 2019.
The market has changed in every industry.
Write that down and most likely will continue to change.
So then the question is, will you bemoan and get caught in highly sensitive reactions to change, or will you accept the challenge?
Will you accept the challenge of what.
[00:17:19] Speaker D: It means to be highly sensitive and.
[00:17:23] Speaker C: Lead through these times?
Lead yourself, lead your family, lead your clients, lead your colleagues, lead your team.
Doing the work here, as we do.
[00:17:41] Speaker D: In the business miracles community, in the highly sensitive leadership training programs.
[00:17:47] Speaker C: Doing the work here to stay continuously up to date on what is needed for you to operate optimally as a highly sensitive entrepreneur and leader in order to be able to be flexible and fluid within the changing market and the world that we are living through, will you accept that challenge?
Now more than ever? Anyone selling you a guaranteed formula of money making is selling. Let's just name it lies.
Because likely it will change by tomorrow.
But building resiliency skills, and specifically resiliency skills as a highly sensitive entrepreneur, as a highly sensitive leader through our weekly training roundtables, then how to apply the resiliency within the track trainings is lifelong success.
It is the way through the shadow to strengths pathway. It is that path to success.
It is the path to success that will support you and being able to navigate change and reach your goals in spite of it is the path to cultivating happiness, true worth, no matter what. And it is the path to generate consistent wealth, no matter what.
A specific how action to support you.
Gratitude. Write that down.
[00:19:41] Speaker D: The highly sensitive no, keep doing that.
[00:19:44] Speaker C: The happiness advantage research shows that just a small amount of gratitude, expressed consistently and differently and specifically will move a person who scores in the lowest percentile of pessimism to the lowest percentile of optimism in just 21 days. I'm going to say that again.
The happiness advantage research shows that just.
[00:20:18] Speaker D: A small amount of gratitude, expressed consistently.
[00:20:23] Speaker C: And differently and specifically, will move a person who scores in the lowest percentile of pessimism to the lowest percentile of optimism in just 21 days. And this research was done with men and men in their eighties who were known as lifelong pessimists. And did I say men?
So one of the ways that we teach, a tool that we teach in the business miracles community, in our highly sensitive leadership track curriculum, is the business miracles core practice of the five yeas. Write that down. The business miracles core practice of the five yeas.
So, last little note here about this practice and the happiness advantage research about using gratitude as a daily practice for 21 days. Happiness advantage research showed it has to be consistent. That means every day, and it has to be different. That means that you are expressing gratitude for something different each day.
So it's not the same five yeas from day to day to day, but every day, each of those five yeas is different.
The research also showed specific so feeling grateful for your family, gotta take it deeper and granular.
What specifically are you grateful for about your family on that particular day? Maybe your child drew you a beautiful picture.
That's the yay about your gratitude for your child that day.
Consistent, different and specific.
This post pandemic happiness advantage, part one financial is a direct counteract to the need for drama and reactions to change.
If you desire more wealth, more abundance in any or all areas, financial, relational, spiritual, you want to ask yourself, am I showing up as my best creator, challenger, coach? If not, how can I?
And use the tools you have access to here, such as the five yeas, to support you if you want more.
[00:23:27] Speaker D: Money, are you persecuting yourself or others about money?
[00:23:32] Speaker C: How can you build yourself and others up instead?
If you want more in your relationships.
[00:23:39] Speaker D: Are you looking to be rescued? How can you hold yourself and others.
[00:23:43] Speaker C: As resourceful and resilient?
[00:23:46] Speaker D: If you want more in your spiritual connection, are you blaming shaming yourself or others? How can you flip the switch and.
[00:23:54] Speaker C: Choose a different response?
How are you meant to be working with proven research to shift from our propensity as highly sensitive towards doom and gloom into a space of gratitude, optimism, and then therefore higher level of productivity and higher level of access to our strength of intuition to support you with all that you are here to create today, tomorrow, and as we continue through these exceptional times.
